I know Jeff personally when I ran for the NC House of Representatives in 2018.
Jeff has become regionally famous, especially among highly-engaged NC progressives, as an incredible communicator. I say this with no exaggeration, but he may be the only legislator (out of 170 state-wide) who uses social media like a normal human being. He is also known for his floor speeches whenever the Republicans pull their shenanigans[0]. This post is pretty typical of his "straight to the people" mass communication style.
Unfortunately, Jeff's career has been limited by circumstances. He has had the misfortune of legislating in a state that is the canonical example of "gerrymandering with surgical precision." He's also hamstrung by an inept state party infrastructure that has really struggled to win tight races and actively boxed him out of higher office (namely, the US Senate races in 2020 and 2022). It will be interesting to see where is career trajectory takes him now that he's in Congress.

- 0x445442 4y agoWhen it comes to gerrymandering with surgical precision I guess you could add Arizona to that list. I went from having Andy Biggs, one of the most conservatives members of congress and a member of the Freedom Caucus, as a representative to having a Democrat as a representative. Oh BTW, I didn’t move.
- tshaddox 4y agoThe fact that a particular location switched to another district and/or switched political parties is not itself evidence of gerrymandering. That is inevitable in any redistributing. In the case of Arizona, fivethirtyeight and CNN both show a loss of 1 Democrat-leaning seat and a gain of 1 Republican-leaning seat.
