The harsh reality is that the AI powering those assistants is simply not smart enough to converse with. Using voice to send commands to a machine is not practical or pleasant for everyone. This should not be a surprise and it could have been easily predicted, but hype and FOMO pushed big companies to sink billions into this tech. This is not the first time, and it will happen again, especially because anything touching AI leads to highly inflated/magical expectations.
