Do you think your work was useless? When I was in the army, my team was requested to move a huge pile of wood logs from A to B. I later discovered that another team was moving them from B to A. With no other purpose than keeping the soldiers busy, not having any imminent war to get ready for. At least mopping the floor resulted in a cleaner floor!
- smaudet 4y agoThat's what a lot of software work is like, though, or at least it trends that way. Something is too complex so let's make it simple, too simple so let's make it complex, wait scratch that the whole thing needs rewritten...

- wruza 4y agoStatistics behind every rule. E.g. for some probably unknown reason people perform worse on average when they have easy schedule. Someone tries to fill it with bs, and it works! The army may make you tired to make you sleep well and stay fit. Also a bs job makes you prepared to think less of bs commands later. The part when you discovered it could be a part of the plan, not an accidental realization.

If the intention was to maintain the team's physical fitness, surely there's a less injury prone exercise that could have been arranged. My guess is that the purpose was to condition you and your team to accept and perform a task without understanding the reason why the task was being performed.
