My biggest concern is that adoption of/interest in Mastodon will mute development of other (higher performant) projects based on ActivityPub. Would be nice to see something based on Go or Rust gaining popularity:

- manfre 4y agoLanguage choice will not have a huge impact on performance. It may help instances be larger (more active users) while using less resources, but network IO for the message fan out will be the great equalizer. The real win for a rust or go server would be a single binary deploy.
