- ceejayoz 4y agoI'm with you on the success (or lack thereof) of the semantic web. I don't consider gambling a good thing just because there are millions of gamblers. I feel the same about cryptocurrency.
- k__ 4y agoHow is using a decentralised Twitter alternative like Lens gambling? How is using a decentralised Zoom alternative like Huddle01 gambling? How is using a decentralised Pusher alternative like Push gambling? I agree, that in the last years most web3 apps focused on financial/blockchain specific use-cases. I also agree, that many of them had quite dubious claims. But that's not all there is and I think, that won't be the reason it will gain mainstream adoption.
- ceejayoz 4y agoWhich of those have the "millions of users" the upthread comment referred to?
- k__ 4y agoGood point. The ones I wrote probably just have a few 10k max. Maybe, the Internet Archive is a better example millions of users?
- ceejayoz 4y agoThe Internet Archive is a web3 project? It was founded in 1996. Web 2.0 didn't exist then.
- k__ 4y agoObviously it didn't start as one, but projects can transition, right? Seemingly, the Internet Archive and Protocol Labs are bros. https://blog.archive.org/2021/04/01/filecoin-foundation-grants-50000-fil-to-the-internet-archive/ https://blog.archive.org/2021/04/01/filecoin-foundation-gran...
