Christie's cancels T-Rex skeleton auction because of a copyright notice
- josephcsible 4y agoHow can a dinosaur bone replica be copyrighted? The original obviously isn't, and it'd be a pretty terrible replica if any creativity went into it instead of being the exact same shape as the original.
- ok_dad 4y agoThat’s the secret of dinosaur bones, most of them are fake artists renditions based on fragments of bones found in the wild. Who knows how accurate any dinosaur skeleton really is. I still think it’s stupid that IP can be controlled for what’s ostensibly some stuff you dig up from the ground.
- hulitu 4y ago> But paleontologist Peter Larson, president of the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research in South Dakota, believes Shen was predominantly built with replica parts from a T. rex known as Stan — a skeleton his organization holds intellectual property rights to after selling it via Christie's for a record $31.8 million in 2020. So if i auction a chicken, i can claim IP rights for all chickens ?
