At this point: 1) The Verge is an awful journalistic news source 2) Elon has devolved into a terribly obnoxious person. But, if you assess his choices while setting your ire for the man aside, his recent choices at Twitter seem to be bear his textbook approach for how he built Tesla and SpaceX: Cull for the “smartest guy/gal in the room”, build cut throat culture of moving fast on top of that. The difference is that he’s doing it a decade down the road, and by all accounts he probably doesn’t actually want to (own Twitter). The thing about this approach is it has a track record of success. So can we please, stop posting about Elon already. He’s not doing anything surprising, of course Twitter is in chaos. Management just switched and like 70-80% of staff is gone. Leave the man alone and let him succeed or fail in building Twitter. Isn’t the best way to deal with trolls (ie Elon) to just ignore them?
