I recently discovered that there's a lively scene in modding old Minecraft versions. GregoriusT was a fairly notorious figure back in the 1.6 - 1.7 days, but now he's doing a lot of great work in holding old versions of the modding framework online and otherwise keeping things from breaking. Then there's the C64 scene, of course. The demo makers is one thing, but there is also the people who lovingly restore the old hardware or document old oddities.
