He probably wouldn’t read most of the mails. I’d just do what I do for my current employer: just send a list of commits of the last week, occasionally adding succinct meeting details. Shouldn’t take a lot of time really, can script getting a list of commits of last week. Shouldn’t be a big deal for most devs I think, might be more annoying for other jobs.
