Ask HN: Why and how did Tim Cook become Apple's CEO?
- wmf 4y agoSteve Jobs appointed him as his successor. Presumably Jobs was training him to take over for a while.
- b20000 4y agoOK, but what specifically was special about Cook that Jobs hired him with the idea to take over, rather than promoting anyone else working at Apple at the time to the role?

- WheelsAtLarge 4y agoI read a bit about him. He is very smart and super disciplined. And very effective at what he does. So much so that he stood out even above the other top level executives around Jobs at the time. And that's saying something. Jobs was right to pick him. The company has thrived and has weathered many problems that could had badly affected the company under his leadership. He has been one of the company's top assets.
