As someone trying to help his sister learn to code, I think part of the reason why ppl reach for python is because it can be run easily. I would be happy to teach her using C# instead, but the last time I coded in C#, one couldn't simply run a C# program. In our specific case, she's a psych major, so python has the added benefit of being in widespread use in the social sciences. She will probably have to use it at some point anyways
