What Does It Mean to Give Someone What They Want?
- PaulHoule 4y agoSince the 1990s I haven't liked the term "recommender" as it has collected a tremendous amount of baggage most notably that the connotation that it is a technology that acts on you on the behalf of somebody else as opposed to a technology that you use to get control of the reality that there is too much information out there. People are so used to information technology draining people of their agency and there is so much despair that it's an uphill battle to convince people that "filtering" and "navigation" could be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
