My solution to this is to take a well documented architecture I could potentially fully understand, use an FPGA to implement it, and jettison all of modern computing.
It's part retrocomputing, part recognition that what we have is actually not great and I'm tired of it.
Is this a viable path? No idea. I'm just tired of modern garbage.
- carapace 4y agoAre you talking about actually doing that? I ask because that's more-or-less what I'd like to do, using Wirth's Project Oberon.
- analognoise 4y agoI'm literally looking for other people with the same dysfunction if you want to talk. I took a look at Wirth's FPGA Project Oberon, but HDMI I think is simple enough to include. I think compatibility with modern C is a necessity, just because of the wealth that you can pull from at that point; I think it would be too difficult to program a C compiler for Wirth's RISC5 processor, but perhaps I'm wrong.
- carapace 4y agoI'm pretty sure there's already a C compiler for it. :) Anyway, I've got the dysfunction, I just added an email address to my profile if you want to contact me. Cheers!
