The open root folks appear to have completely missed the IANA transition (for a European source: https://www.ripe.net/participate/internet-governance/internet-technical-community/iana/iana-stewardship-transition https://www.ripe.net/participate/internet-governance/interne...). The US Dept. of Commerce hasn't been involved with root zone changes for more than half a decade.
What a waste of time.
- eternalban 4y agoYour first link is just arguing why we need a single root. The second one notes handover of control from US to ICANN (which you are correct, they should note it) but their text above notes general issues regardless of who is the 'steward'.
