Fo me the worst (possibly only significant) issue about ads is they are stealing my attention over what I'm actually trying to do. Flashing, taking up screen space, disturbing, requiring to find a well-hidden "fuck off" button. Inclusion of some links bothers me much less. Though I agree it's poor overall.
