Breathing smoke was never healthy. Eat your weed.
- autotune 4y agoThe only time I ended up in a hospital due to substances was because I thought I was dying after eating too much of an edible, even though it was really just my first, and only, panic attack. Be careful.
- AmericanChopper 4y agoIf Marijuana is a serious medicine, then I’d personally expect it to be packaged by professional laboratory in some sort of precisely dosed unit, and to only contain the compounds required to derive the therapeutic benefit. The amateurness of it I can kinda get past, but I’ve never been able to take the idea of smoking your “medicine” seriously.
- autotune 4y agoI stopped taking it in any form a few months ago, and stopped with Adderall too right before the shortage. Unless you have some kind of chronic pain or have cancer and it's marijuana vs opioids, it is more for personal entertainment than anything else. California confirmed it as more of a means of entertainment similar to, but still possibly less dangerous than, alcohol by making it legal for retail sale on the state level a few years back.
- weaksauce 4y ago> California confirmed it as more of a means of entertainment similar to, but still possibly less dangerous than, alcohol by making it legal for retail sale on the state level a few years back. that's not how the propositions work in california though. it's proposed, backed by enough of the citizens via signatures, then voted on in a simple majority passage during an election. There is no "confirmation" one way or the other of it being anything other than something that a majority of the voters in california wanting to do it recreationally.
- eurasiantiger 4y ago> I’ve never been able to take the idea of smoking your “medicine” seriously. Search for videos of multiple sclerosis patients using cannabis and you will understand.
- AmericanChopper 4y agoWhatever efficacy it has, it doesn’t rely on being smoked. A delivery method that’s obviously a massive health risk.
- eurasiantiger 4y agoYou are correct. However, MS typically comes with spasticity and trouble swallowing: the former prevents operating a device with small parts, and the latter prevents effective oral delivery. A pipe is comparatively easy to use when your hands and legs don’t want to stay in any position.
- AmericanChopper 4y agoIf somebody’s incapable of swallowing foods or liquids, then they’re going to have somebody caring for them who can administer medicines. The suggestion that MS patients HAVE TO smoke their medicine is really some of the funniest stoner logic I’ve ever heard. If you really think they have to breath it in though, there’s already an actual delivery system to accomodate that, it’s called a nebulizer.
- eurasiantiger 4y agoNo, it’s called a vaporizer. There are some which are certified medical devices, such as the Volcano. Do you think this guy is acting? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXe75TZYjJs&t=131 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXe75TZYjJs&t=131
- AmericanChopper 4y agoThe FDA hasn’t approved any dry herb vaporizers for any form of medical use at all. If you want to inhale a liquid medicine, then you do it with a nebulizer. The reason for this is that it’s obviously stupid to inhale all the toxic and carcinogenic substances you get from smoking or vaping marijuana. You can continue making comments about efficacy if you like, but I don’t know who you’re addressing them to, because I haven’t said anything about efficacy at all.
- p1necone 4y agoDefinitely. Alongside the push for legalization we should also be pushing for more edibles and vaporization and less combustion. Inhaling burnt anything is terrible for you. I believe there's been studies showing that people with fireplaces in their homes have meaningfully lower life expectancy than those with other forms of heating too.
- spookie 4y agoVaporization ain't that great either.
- brimstedt 4y agoWhy should you push for legalization?
- p1necone 4y agoBecause weed (ideally not smoked) is no more harmful than alcohol and prohibition is counter-productive.
- brimstedt 4y agoI don't see how "not being more harmful than alcohol" is a reason.
- nickthegreek 4y agoTo starve the industrial prison complex.
- q1w2 4y agoDosage is a lot more variable in edibles. Numerous people I know have had bad trips due to the unknown dosage in edibles. It's not fun. We need proper regulations to label dosages and control production.
- eurasiantiger 4y agoWhat kind of FUD shilling is going on this thread? All legitimate dispensaries are required by law to only sell products that have been accurately labeled with respect to their content.
- q1w2 4y agoPlease take your outrage to a more appropriate social media site. Regulations vary wildly by state and I don't live in one with such regulations. Moreover, labeling only works if the gov't is spot testing and inspecting production facilities.
- eurasiantiger 4y agoRight, I forgot the US is a backwards country where the people worship corporate profits.
- buffington 4y agoIn the state I live in, as well as in neighboring states, there are laws that require producers of marijuana to include test results showing the breakdowns of compounds found in the tested samples. I don't know how strict the laws are, but based on the several pages of data that dispensaries are required to adhere to the sold product, I'd imagine that the laws are pretty strict. That said, there's so much that can impact someone's perception of dosage with edibles. The mix of CBD/THC/CBN, what someone ate prior to consuming the edibles, how much time has passed between eating a meal and consuming the edibles, and things like metabolism and liver function all factor in. Said another way: the effectiveness or perceived potency of marijuana, even with perfectly consistent and controlled dosages, can depend on so many other factors than consistent and controlled dosages.
