This is a wonderful film. No fancy sound effects. No banal voiceover. Every word has a place here, and formatting is of such little concern that words are allowed to split across lines in awkward ways.
Clearly, the focus was on the graphics. And, oh, how lovely these animations are, how clearly they convey the message.
There was a time when educational films were based on two expectations that seem foreign and perhaps quaint in today's click-driven world. First, that the viewer already has some background knowledge, usually gained by staring at textbooks late at night, doing assignments without a safety net provided by, well, the 'net. And, second, that the viewer fully expects that the film will provide clarity on some issues that might be hard to grasp well by making marks on paper.
This reminds me of the days when educational films focussed on educating, not amusing. What a breath of fresh air this is. Fresh air from a dusty past.
- w-ll 4y agoI was gonna suggest the AT&T Tech YouTube channel, but I forgot it got bogged with these Threat Traq videos (they aint the worst, but wish they did it as another channel), and now you cant search YouTube in reverse chronological order anymore. but at least you can still search "archives". https://www.youtube.com/user/ATTTechChannel/search?query=archives https://www.youtube.com/user/ATTTechChannel/search?query=arc... Edit: Periscope Films another good Youtube channel for older educational films, im sure most of yall know but if not https://www.youtube.com/@PeriscopeFilm/videos https://www.youtube.com/@PeriscopeFilm/videos

- vl 4y agoThe only reason this film is done this way is because of extreme limitations of equipment and process used for its production. While there is value in the aesthetics brought by such process, it’s easy to see how actual content could have been improved. For example, they talk about flow speed, but can’t render it. All flow segments would be better if relative speed of air streams would be rendered as well.
