The need to be informed in order to effectively participate in civic life does not magically go away just because you recognize that there are systemic problems. Likewise, referring to all journalism as "the news" is making the same fallacy as referring to "the government" as a singular being. Neither are completely monolithic entities with anthropomorphic agency.
