I consider the array pointer stuff a bit of a foot-gun in C. I've seen too many examples of people mixing up uint8_t[][] and uint8_t**. The "compound literals are lvalues" pattern I've seen many times for inline initializing a struct that's only going to be around as a parameter to a single function call.
