- akeck 4y agoThis is one of my favorite essays. It changed my relationship with physical stuff.

- m3047 4y agoThe most useful part for me is the Today / What We Want / The Trend section at the end, which I think informs this from the referenced _Note_: "Good experiments are well-designed experiments. Real experiments need a theory. They need something to prove or disprove. Experiments need to be slotted into some larger context of research, and their results need to be communicated to other practitioners. That's what makes them true "experiments" instead of private fetishes."
- Kaibeezy 4y agoThe entire Viridian site is still up. Includes nearly 500 essays by Pope-Emperor Bruce Stirling himself. There's even an active link to a Cafe Press shop where you can still buy a Big Mike t-shirt. http://www.viridiandesign.org/ http://www.viridiandesign.org/ One day, when the kids in the domes are asking why their great-great grandparents didn't do more to save the planet, we can shakily point our gnarled fingers at resources like this and say "we tried".
