Time to curb the data brokers
- wardedVibe 4y agoIts incredibly rich to see an article about parasitic publishers in a Nature article.
- imiric 4y agoThis topic should be way more mainstream, and the activity of the data broker market, and participation of companies and governments, much more visible than it currently is. The fact it requires research to gain knowledge into how it operates makes it clear that it's not much different from other black markets. Except in this one, data obtained by tracking users and consumers is traded by the world's most powerful organizations, whose income and power largely depends on this being kept in the dark. The biggest hypocrisy is that these same companies publicly declare how much they care about protecting their users' privacy, while doing the absolute opposite behind the scenes. It's disheartening to see no discussion on this post, on a site visited by employees of the largest corporations involved in this market. Surely they have some moral standpoint, and could share some insider perspective about this.
- kornhole 4y agoReplace the word privacy with genitals in the statement "We care about your privacy." I don't want anybody caring about my privacy as it is none of their business. These articles are starting to get out, but the problem is so out of hand and a long way from any resolution. Until data becomes a public good, try to poison every bit of data they can get. Use your creativity. It is fun.
