Ask HN: How Do You Keep Track of Your Favorite Recipes?
Here is my dilemma:
Many of my favorite cooking recipes are spread across different formats: cookbooks, youtube videos, websites (that break their URLs often), and more. How do you keep track of/organize/compile all of your favorite recipes for posterity?
- t-3 4y agoPrint it out, shove it in the stack of recipes/cookbooks in the cupboard.
- Ptchd 4y agoyes... at https://mywebsite.net/recipes/ https://mywebsite.net/recipes/ ... where I get a directory listing of txt files each containing one recipe (usually copied and pasted from the print-view version of the recipe found at your favorite recipe website

- PaulHoule 4y agoIf they are my 'favorite' I cook them all the time and can get the proportions close enough out of memory.

- brookst 4y agoThe Pestle app is pretty great. It's not cheap, and is Apple only, but it scans text, scrapes most recipe websites, does unit/portion conversions, can produce aggregate shopping list for multiple recipes.
- i13e 4y agoThis seems more like what I am looking for. The low tech solutions are great (text files and paper) on a personal level but are horrible for sharing and editing with family. It's too bad about the apple lock in, is there was a way to export to a friendly format like PDF or markdown? (In case the app ever shuts down)
- brookst 4y agoThe two export features I see are individual recipes to PDF, or all of your recipes to JSON. It would be nice if it could make a personal cookbook to PDF!
