What does it mean to "imply" or "allude" to something in music?
- codeulike 4y agoA melody or a chord sequence sets up an expectation. How you meet that expectation (directly, or shades of 'slightly' to 'completely subverted') is where the art happens. You can imply the tonic note without having to actually go there sometimes. It's all patterns, and getting the balance between repetition and change.
