Asked my teen what they'd switch to if TikTok disappeared. Instagram Reels? YouTube Shorts? Snapchat Spotlight?
Response: "Nothing, I'd probably just watch more Netflix"
- Spivak 4y agoYep, TikTok is TV complete with channel surfing but make it social media. The clones don’t actually get that.
- josefresco 4y agoI've used YouTube shorts and it seems to be pretty much the same. It's basically YT video content, shortened and remixed.
- nicolashahn 4y agoRealistically I think most of the TikTok content creators would go over to Reels and the net effect on attention-destroying time-wasting would be small.
- josefresco 4y agoI think YouTube shorts has a decent shot, as they can leverage the mega YouTube pool of creators.
- skyyler 4y agoI don't think shorts is going to take off if they continue with the gimped player.
- 2OEH8eoCRo0 4y agoYour teen also never expected to use TikTok in the first place. The social group "decides" collectively. I'm positive that if TikTok were banned teens would find themselves on another service.
- josefresco 4y agoYou're probably right, I still think it's neat to hear what my teen and their peers think. My teen is part of the generation that graduated from Musical.ly which they barely remember when I mention it. They grow up fast!
