How about this for a "super simple rule", the gov can keep secret whatever they pay for. As long as they're taking taxpayer $$$ *we own it*, and have all the rights to utilize that technology for our collective benefit.
- tofuahdude 4y agoThe fact that it is classified literally is to the collective benefit! Silly proposal for a rule.
- RetpolineDrama 4y agoThe collective harm of say, the navy's classified work in to compact fusion, being locked away is far greater than the collective benefit. US black programs are full of advanced tech that could unlock all sorts of improvements in people's daily lives, tech we paid for.
- MichaelCollins 4y agoAgreed, I should be able to take a US Navy ballistic missile submarine for a cruise. How dare they keep me out, I helped pay for those subs! (Is my example any less stupid than the assertion that anybody be allowed to walk into the testing facility for new military planes?)
- AshleyGrant 4y agoYes, your example is more stupid. Because OP never asserted that "anybody be allowed to walk into the testing facility for new military planes." It is beyond stupid, and an absolute affront to the First Amendment, that it is against the law for a US Citizen to even draw a picture of something they can see with their own eyes, while standing or flying outside of a restricted area. If the military doesn't want people to see stuff, then don't leave it outside where it is visible.
- RetpolineDrama 4y agoBeing intentionally daft goes against HN guidelines. That's not what I said, you know that's not what I said, yet you strawmaned my comment anyways.
