It’s the classic “Those who can, do; those who can't, teach” When I was in community college the professors were far more practical because they were often industry professionals teaching out of passion. After I transferred to a state university I noticed that the vast majority of my professors had zero industry experience. They had finished graduate degrees and went straight to teaching. The content was impractical and often just factually incorrect.
