- MichaelZuo 4y agoHow will this standard be enforced for products operating outdoors?
- programmer_dude 4y agoEnforced at port of entry (customs).
- MichaelZuo 4y agoSo they will effectively ban imports of all outdoor weather rated 'smart products'?
- programmer_dude 4y agoI don't think so. This only applies to mobile phones. What outdoor rated smart products did you have in mind?
- MichaelZuo 4y agoSmart home cameras.
- eternityforest 4y agoThere's a pretty simple solution there. USB-IF could just specify a waterproof connector. They could even make a waterproof housing that could slip over an existing USB-C.
- MichaelZuo 4y agoAnd if USB-IF decides not to?
- vivegi 4y agoI think this is for mobile phones primarily and any devices that today use a multitude of OEM-specific chargers.
- vivegi 4y agoFrom the article: > India will shift to a USB type C charging port for all smart devices after stakeholders reached a consensus at a meeting of an inter-ministerial task force set up by the Union government, consumer affairs secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said Wednesday.
- envolt 4y ago> One of India’s concerns is that once EU makes the shift, obsolete phones and equipment could be dumped in India, a second official said. India always have been a huge market for slightly old models; which are more affordable. Anyone who wants an iPhone can't afford the latest because of the price tag.
