One downside is that you now have a much higher bar for hiring talent to do trivial things. If you don't understand FP at a fundemental level, you will have a hard time finding people to work on your systems. Junior/Senior engineers are meant to be fungible to an extent. This ups the bar to a new language: this ain't JavaScript, it's an entire conceptual framework on top of JavaScript. EDIT: That being said, I really want to read this book!
