Insomniac, the Browser That Never Sleeps
- tedmiston 4y ago> https://insomniacbrowser.com/pricing/ https://insomniacbrowser.com/pricing/ $499 Per Month This seems like a joke?
- duskwuff 4y agoI don't think it's a joke. I think it's made to assist scalpers in buying limited-supply items from web sites and circumventing order limits -- that'd explain some of the weirder features mentioned on the home page, like per-tab proxies and "queue statistics". I am disappointed to discover that this is a thing, but also completely unsurprised to find that someone else is trying to make money off of it. Where there's a niche, there's a way.
- netruk44 4y agoI think you're right. There's a discount for 'Shows On Sale' members, which you can also apply for (Only $150/month!). The membership application asks how long you've been in the "ticket business" and where you sell your ticket inventory. If you look into advertising on their site, they describe themselves: "Shows On Sale is a community for experienced ticket brokers across the United States and Canada"
- duskwuff 4y agoOh, so it's specifically for ticket scalpers. I was thinking sneakerheads, but I guess that makes sense too. Yeah, they can burn in hell.
- no-s 4y ago> that'd explain some of the weirder features mentioned on the home page GDPR compliance too?
- encryptluks2 4y agoFlagging this... Inline with advertising on here for credit card skimmers.
- jlund-molfese 4y agoI found this post interesting because I’m always curious about new browsers, and the OP isn’t affiliated with the project as far as I can tell. Don’t think it’s advertising.
- encryptluks2 4y agoIt is a subscription service used for ticket scalpers
- jlund-molfese 4y agoHey, all the better to raise awareness then. Maybe some people who work in supply-limited industries will see it and implement countermeasures. Either way the submission doesn’t violate any HN rules, so I vouched for it.
- no-s 4y ago> advertising I don’t think OP is advertising this.
- cpeterso 4y agoOP here. I have no affiliation with the Insomniac browser. I work for Mozilla. I just thought this was an interesting niche product that shows how different people browse the Web in different ways.
- vallard 4y agoThis doesn’t seem like a coincidence this story shows up the same week of the the Taylor Swift/Ticketmaster controversy.
