- AnimalMuppet 4y agoIf HN flags can put you in a jail cell, then the 6th Amendment would be relevant.
- breck 4y agoI'd consider 6th Amendment best practice so think HN should have a very good reason for going against that.
- AnimalMuppet 4y agoDo you want HN to be able to jail you if you post the wrong thing? No? (Neither do I.) You want one side of the 6th Amendment, but not the other. Different circumstances, different rules.
- breck 4y agoExplain why someone should be able to judge (flag) anonymously. Downvotes I understand, but anon flagging?
- AnimalMuppet 4y agoWell, it takes more than one flag. So at that point, it's more like a jury of your peers. (In an actual jury trial, you don't get to know their names, either.) Also, we're not anonymous to the judge (dang). I'll reverse the question: If I see you doing something I think you shouldn't, why do I have to make myself known to you when I call the cops? In the same way, if I see you posting something that I think is inappropriate for this site, why do I have to make myself known to you when I flag it?

- dang 4y agoBreck, you can't attack other users like that. We ban accounts that do this. We also ban accounts that continually post off-topic things and/or try repeatedly to stir up the same drama. I really don't want to ban you, so please stop all of this now. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
