One of the most nonsensical trends I've seen in programming is the notion that 'code should explain itself' and if it's well-written, extensive comments are unnecessary. The best way to improve this post would be to append comments to each discrete code section, explaining clearly what other code sections it interacts with, what it's intended to do, and any other notes needed to clarify the functionality.
