It is unlikely that electricity won't increase in price more or less in line with gasoline.
Plus, one 150mi taxi ride, at a cost of about $1000 today buys an awful lot of gas. And if you go out 150mi, you probably want to come home, so now you're talking $2000 in taxi fare for that one weekend trip to see Grandma.
This is all a recipe for returning to an era where mostly people are born, live their life, and die, all within 100mi. Which is really actually the point of the exercise, of course.
