Finding an SBC
- Peer_to_Peer 4y agoThanks, this could be really helpful. A couple things I noticed: - Keyword search appears to only look at model. For example searching for "Nvidia" returns no results but searching for "Jetson" does. - Clicking the "None (409)" option in the Form Factor filter returns no results. Perhaps that's because the form factor is listed as "Unknown" on their individual pages.
- trh0awayman 4y agoGood idea. I've been looking for something like this for a bit. Nice to see the Star64 already included. One big problem I ran into while using the Pi a few years ago is that the USB bus was shared with Ethernet bus and it caused massive problems for anyone doing anything intensive with either of those. I wish I could filter out issues like that without having to do a deep-dive on each SBC before purchasing (I noticed at least one more SBC on the list I've had hardware issues with).
- MartijnBraam 4y agoDefining shared busses is not an easy thing to solve though sadly. ideally you can just get a nice block diagram for each board but we also don't have the data for that.
- TheWoodsy 4y agoOh man. The single deciding parameter that I'm looking for is not populated. Ethernet speed.
- cr3ative 4y agoAnd then you have "negotiated speed" vs. "realisable speed" when the bus it sits on is slower. Great fun!
- MartijnBraam 4y agoI have the data, just need to figure out how to filter it nicely. A bit annoying if you have a board with 5 ports with different speeds
- treffer 4y agoI like geizhals.eu for these things. Ethernet ports >= 0,1,2,... 10Base-T ports >= .... You end up with quite a few filters, but it gives full flexibility to search for e.g 5 1GBit ports with 1 10Gbit sfp+ port.
- ethanpil 4y agoWould love to see some benchmarks listed for each CPU as well. so I can filter by functions and then compare performance. Another useful data point would be OS support and availability - official and/or community versions, last release date, number of releases, etc.
- MartijnBraam 4y agoThat would require doing benchmarks for all the boards though, which is problematic since I don't have all the boards
- squarefoot 4y agoGreat resource; it would be nice if each board record could be updated with a list of the sellers, each one with stock and prices. That could be a service many sellers would probably pay a small quid for, ultimately helping to support the site. Also, take a look at the following list, which is updated at least yearly. https://linuxgizmos.com/catalog-of-136-open-spec-community-backed-linux-sbcs-under-200/ https://linuxgizmos.com/catalog-of-136-open-spec-community-b...
- Snoozus 4y agoThe main filter I'm missing is whether one can actually buy a board or if it's out of stock.
- _zfxr 4y agoSo helpful ty.
- bpye 4y agoI wish ARM hardware was more standard. You can take essentially any x86 machine, install a generic Linux, *BSD, Windows, etc image on it, and expect most hardware to work - sometimes audio is a bit weird in my experience. It feels like we're still far from that with ARM.
- salawat 4y agoNeat! May try grabbing a few things to add to my "podunk, heterogenous compute cluster that I'll probably snap and try to make a scheduler for some day...
