- kolbe 4y ago> Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) said he spent money given to him by Bankman-Fried to drive turnout for Andrea Salinas, a Latina running for Congress in Oregon—whom Bankman-Fried spent millions to defeat during the district’s Democratic primary. > “So, I think I’ve paid it back,” Gallego said. I don't think he has the same definition of "paid it back" as most people do.
- fshbbdssbbgdd 4y agoI don’t understand the pressure to give bad people their money back. What’s it supposed to accomplish? I’m not sure it should even be legal to send money to SBF. It’s seeming more and more likely that he’s head of a criminal conspiracy.
- dottrap 4y agoIf the money was stolen, it was never SBF's to give. The law does have provisions that can force the clawback of stolen funds. But because we're talking about politicians here, I don't think anybody believes the law will be enforced equally to them.
- thaumasiotes 4y agoIt's supposed to prove that you're better than they are. It's not supposed to accomplish anything other than that.
- pkaye 4y agoLooks like some of the politicians are re-gift the donations to charity. https://fortune.com/crypto/2022/11/15/politicians-sam-bankman-fried-donations-ftx-charity/ https://fortune.com/crypto/2022/11/15/politicians-sam-bankma...
