Ever-expanding animation of the life of the 796th floor of a space station

- jihadjihad 4y agoI don't know why, but this is giving me vibes similar to The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch.
- 111111101101 4y agoI love this version of that painting. https://player.vimeo.com/video/191632804 https://player.vimeo.com/video/191632804
- MisterTea 4y agoThe music video for Bucket Head's Spokes for the Wheel of Torment animates the hell section of the triptych: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3bO8rXc-nM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3bO8rXc-nM I really do enjoy Bosch's work. It gives you a sense of what monsters looked like to people of the middle ages, many of which are animal and fish like.
- agentwiggles 4y agoThat was really awesome, I've been a Buckethead fan since I discovered his music through Guitar Hero way back in the day. Enter The Chicken has to be one of the most underrated metal albums of the 2000s, the collaborations with Serj Tankian stand out but there's a lot of great tracks on there. I'm a guitarist so I enjoy shred wankery more than the average joe, but the actual songs with lyrics on Enter the Chicken stand up to repeat listening much better than most of his work imo. (ymmv)
- acomjean 4y agoI love his work in Praxis. He’s amazing. https://youtu.be/1qoL9YLWV8g https://youtu.be/1qoL9YLWV8g
- agentwiggles 4y agoThanks for sharing that, I enjoyed it a lot. I had no idea Praxis existed, putting Bootsy and Buckethead in the same studio was bound to result in something good!
- albedoa 4y agoSome prior art (music warning): https://blueballfixed.ytmnd.com/ https://blueballfixed.ytmnd.com/
- smusamashah 4y agoTook long time to track the full path of the blue ball.
- PM_me_your_math 4y agoBringing back some good ole memories. Thanks.
- papa_bear 4y agoThis is amazing. So many easter eggs to click through. If you're a fan of this type of art, https://www.reddit.com/r/wimmelbilder/ https://www.reddit.com/r/wimmelbilder/ is full of good stuff.
- capableweb 4y ago> to click through Uuh, thanks for that. Spent 30 minutes looking through everything and didn't realize I could click on stuff until I saw your comment...
- em-bee 4y agothere are easter eggs too...
- deleted 4y ago[deleted]
- smusamashah 4y agoThis is basically animated version of this subreddit. It has an astounding collection of images like this. There are so many stories in every single one (most) of them.
- rob74 4y agoYeah, this instantly reminded me of the children's books which are apparently called "Wimmelbuch" in English as well (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wimmelbilderbuch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wimmelbilderbuch) - this is a Wimmelanimation so to say...
- nsxwolf 4y agoI love the ones that are foreign to me because I don't understand any of the idioms. At all. Are those pies on the roof? Stabbing a brick wall with a knife?
- behnamoh 4y agoI love it, except the parts that show *gore*. IMO this could have been much more fun without them.
- Barrin92 4y agoThis is very cool. Feels a little bit like the modern day version of a Hieronymus Bosch painting
- defulmere 4y agoCame here to say the same thing, except Bruegel.
- Scaevolus 4y agoOne of my favorite collaborative tiled art pieces is this 3D Marble Machine: https://youtu.be/Oszl95YWfbs https://youtu.be/Oszl95YWfbs
- WaxProlix 4y agoWow, this is super cool. How do you get obviously talented people to spend so much time collaborating on things like this?
- Scaevolus 4y agoPwnisher has a bunch of subscribers, making a 5s clip isn't outrageously time consuming, and it's a fun competition! He's done a few of these community challenges: https://youtu.be/iKBs9l8jS6Q https://youtu.be/iKBs9l8jS6Q https://youtu.be/JXrWPLNp9tw https://youtu.be/JXrWPLNp9tw https://youtu.be/EdCvwmebWN0 https://youtu.be/EdCvwmebWN0 https://youtu.be/8b5k0M8wTBg https://youtu.be/8b5k0M8wTBg
- zppln 4y agoWow. I don't think I've ever felt less imaginative.
- pixelbath 4y agoWell, for these particular challenges, we're all on a Discord server (https://discord.gg/createwithclint https://discord.gg/createwithclint), and these are semi-regular community challenges. There are also smaller weekly competitions, but these are the big community collabs: Parallel Dimensions (11/2020) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdCvwmebWN0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdCvwmebWN0 Alternate Realities (06/2021) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKBs9l8jS6Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKBs9l8jS6Q Infinite Journeys (03/2022) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXrWPLNp9tw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXrWPLNp9tw Moving Mediations (09/2022) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b5k0M8wTBg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b5k0M8wTBg
- daef 4y agohugged to hard?
- hinkley 4y agoI got about three screen’s worth and it stopped. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m on a tablet or if the server is struggling.
- some_random 4y agoIt seems we hugged another one to death
- nervousvarun 4y agoDon't let Roger Waters know about those kids going through the meat grinder.
- ArtWomb 4y agoStellar performance via differential 2.5D rendering. This is a dream ;)
- rhn_mk1 4y agoFunny, while listening to my laptop's fan going crazy I was thinking that any computer from 2000 would have enough power to render this if it was native :P
- joan_kode 4y agoI can absolutely make a native version that's considerably less efficient than this one. And yes, a more efficient browser version is possible (and possibly simpler). People like to fixate on platforms, but it's all about implementation.
- jacobsenscott 4y agoSure - also on your computer from 2000 the fans would be on all the time time, one fan would have a bad bearing, and the HD would literally be making a crunching sound, and you would constantly be cleaning gunk off the mouse ball.
- NikolaNovak 4y agoIt "performs well" in the sense that I as a human enjoy it smoothly, but it does make my modern laptop's fan spin up quite loudly; and I don't know (I could be wrong!) that it renders graphics that is effectively fundamentally more complex than the ones I enjoyed on Amiga 500 and x286? This is not in any way to reduce its awesomeness; I just lost 15 minutes I don't have scrolling around and will return to it this weekend! But I wouldn't say it had great performance. edit: Unless you meant "Stellar Performance" in the artistic sense, i.e. "The figure skater put up a great performance today", in which case wholeheartedly agree :-)
- throw7 4y agoVery cool. I don't see Waldo in the Changes log, but does that mean he's not there? ;)
- FrameworkFred 4y agoI love this on so many levels...not an ever expanding amount of levels, mind you, but an impressive number of levels.
- pimlottc 4y agoNote that parts of this are probably NSFW.
- JoeDaDude 4y agoLots of nekkid people.
- nielsbot 4y agoReminds me of eBoy! https://hello.eboy.com/ https://hello.eboy.com/
- hinkley 4y agoPoor Ruby Rhod. How you gonna play him like that? Bzzzzzz!
- fennecfoxy 4y agoWell the artist is apparently Russian, so. Hopefully it's more playing into Rhod's character than as an insult I guess.
- coreyp_1 4y agoFind Chuck Norris... It's worth it.
- readingnews 4y agoHa! Certainly was worth it.
- cosmodisk 4y agoI never thought I'd ever see Chuck and the yellow kvass barrel on wheels in the same picture. Crazy! Took me some time to find Chuck.
- calimoro78 4y agoFound it! I challenge you to find the reference to the Fifth Element...
- hinkley 4y agoWhich one?
- rob74 4y agoThanks! Now my nose is bleeding...
- TrapLord_Rhodo 4y agoThis took me way too long and when I did find him, his egg scared me haha.
- nness 4y agoWhen I say to friends "the internet used to be fun," its projects like these that I miss!
- ivan888 4y agoRich content (anything that isn't a listicle or SEO'd fluff article) has become harder and harder to find
- smusamashah 4y agoEver-expanding? Does it mean that new areas are still being added to it every once in a while?
- sp332 4y agoI see a Squid Game reference, so it's at least reltively recent.
- willcipriano 4y agoClick the changes tab up top, looks like stuff is added regularly.
- rob74 4y agoIt has a changelog in the top menu under "Changes" which lists all the additions by date. You can even get notified on updates (although only via Telegram, an RSS feed would be nicer).
- robocat 4y agofloor795.com and floor797.com are available for purchase, next door so to speak.

- UberFly 4y agoThis is... truly awesome. Wow. Love that Pink Floyd section. You can even read his lips as he's shouting at the kids.
- nullbyte 4y agoThis is amazing, there's so much detail and little easter eggs everywhere. I like the headless guy in the gym XD
- gabythenerd 4y agoThis is awesome. I saw Portal, Boku No Hero Academia, the Rugrats and Harry Potter just to name a few. Seems it has easter eggs for every generation.
- mesozoic 4y agoThis is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while!
- matt3210 4y agoShould be marked NSFW
- thezorroboy 4y agoWhat's NSFW in it ?
- Kosirich 4y agoIt reminds me of Theme Hospital
- dark-star 4y agothis is awesome! But where is the FireFly reference? There must be a FireFly reference, right? RIGHT?? :-D
- rob74 4y agoAmazing! The only way I can imagine to improve this would be to add music/sound effects that become louder or fainter depending on your location: Boney M, Pink Floyd, the Muppets "Mahna Mahna" song etc. etc.
- deleted 4y ago[deleted]
- z9znz 4y agoI don't understand why the newly spawned guy is suddenly attached to cables on his nipples and penis. What is that supposed to represent? Much of the rest of it makes sense, although there is that strange mutant monkey thing on the upper left...
- sinuhe69 4y agoClick on the figure and you will see a reference
- andrei_says_ 4y agoI love this more than I can explain. The way things fit together is mesmerizing and and beyond satisfying. In some ways this reminds me of how I picture software.
- emmanueloga_ 4y agoThe author has a blog post in Russian explaining how this works (they implemented a custom video format and render it to canvases) [1]. The author's flow chart is slightly reminiscent of Drakon [2] ... I wonder if that's still a thing over there :-) It seems like the implementation is compiled from another language, but I'm not sure which one (I'm just curious about this). 1: https://habr-com.translate.goog/ru/company/floor796/blog/673318/?_x_tr_sl=en&_x_tr_tl=es&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp https://habr-com.translate.goog/ru/company/floor796/blog/673... 2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRAKON https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRAKON
- TrapLord_Rhodo 4y agoFunny enough, i can't seem to find a single studio ghibli reference. I thought this style of art would lend itself well to alot of characters from that studio, but after clicking around for an hour I can't find a single one.
- arifmeticus 4y agoThere is princess Mononoke under a tree.
- latchkey 4y agohttps://floor796.com/#t2l2,435,477 https://floor796.com/#t2l2,435,477
- TrapLord_Rhodo 4y agoahhhh!! and the forest spirits. Can't believe i missed that.
- SMAAART 4y ago#RAD
- lleb97a 4y agoAbsolutley mesmerizing, love it.
- iampivot 4y agoNice Pink Floyd reference!
- wodenokoto 4y agoClick "changes" and you can click through to a highlight and explanation of almost everything in the scene. Some of the changes are interactive. You can play the TRON game (even though the game isn't from TRON)
- rcshubhadeep 4y agoThis was fun. Thanks for this
- optimalsolver 4y agoReminded me of "Report From An Unidentified Space Station" by JG Ballard: http://geosci.uchicago.edu/~kite/doc/roauss.htm http://geosci.uchicago.edu/~kite/doc/roauss.htm
- skinpop 4y agobeautiful, but I would have preferred it without the famous characters and memes.
- drooopy 4y agoThe real multiverse of madness. I love this!
- rightbyte 4y agoReally awesome. I got a weak spot for pixel art. Too bad some things are abit too gory. I am sure my kid would love it.
- nashashmi 4y ago> Too bad some things are abit too gory. This! Why can’t things just remain clean fun? It’s like these artists lose the etiquette or never acquired the etiquette of story telling. When I say graphics and cartoons used to be a whole lot of fun and games, etiquettes are exactly what I reminisce.
- nsxwolf 4y agoA lot of it is an homage to gory sci fi horror, so it's gonna be like that. I did find it disturbing to be reminded of so much of it all at once!
- darepublic 4y agoLove this site, bravo
- micrum 4y agoLOL, I posted it 5 days ago, but it only got 2 points :) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33554994 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33554994
