Despite praising free speech, Musk fires Twitter engineers who criticize him
- sizzzzlerz 4y agoFree speech doesn't mean the same thing to Musk, or any private party, than it does to the government. The engineers were not restrained by Musk, in any way, to speak their minds. It's the fact that their words had ramifications that they failed to realize. That is a common misunderstanding among "free speechers'.

- bediger4000 4y agoThis is one of those technically correct answers that absolutely misses the point. Musk and the modern "free speech" people criticize exactly private parties who refuse to pay for or to broadcast Musk's and modern "free speech" people's utterances. When it comes down to critism of Musk, then it's free speech for me, but not for thee. Musk exhibits hypocrisy, and the modern "free speech" people just want a privileged place for their speech.
- sschueller 4y agoEven bigger issue is Musk using his position of power to criticize Twitter staff publicly and if they defend themselves the fires them.
- encryptluks2 4y agoThis right here. It isn't like these people were just shitting on Musk or Twitter randomly. They were literally responding to his very public post shitting on them, and in a constructive way that Musk was too sensitive to handle anyone disputing his version of facts. Just look at his lawsuit filings. He doesn't care if the facts are against him, he wants you to believe in his narcissism.
- papito 4y agoAbsolutely. Musk drew first blood by making a public accusation of his own employees and then got all torqued after getting a public response. Notice that he didn't really continue the conversation and his last argument was "you are fired". It's like he is living the real-world Apprentice, even though Trump never really fired anyone on the show himself - it was the producers who made that call for maximum drama.
- comte7092 4y agoTwitter isn’t the government either, and that’s what this whole ordeal is supposedly about. Musk was on the opposite side of your argument when it came to Twitter platform moderation, and now that he’s in charge, it seems it’s just been about his own ego all along. (Shocking)
