Decision making informed by critical thinking are of course some of the most valuable skills one can give an adolescent, however, there is no replacement for experimentation. Of course I'm not asserting that we let kids go out and do drugs to test them out, however, I do think teaching critical thinking skills and then allowing teens the freedom to exercise them to calculate the risks they take is important. Testing the limits of that calculation is the only was that we can learn the right equation.
