Why Bamboo did not take over the world as a substitute for wood timber?
It is because bamboo post processing is expensive. As long as one is using uncut bamboo it is excellent material with high tensile and structural strength. However, to make 'timber' out of bamboo, one needs to separate bamboo fiber, soak them in water and then press join using glue to get a wood timber equivalent.
- 4wsn 4y agoAssuming very cheap availability of raw bamboo, do you know if it's feasible to get the processing cost down with scale, to end up being cheaper than wood timber?
- achow 4y agoI would assume that the adhesive cost would be same for per unit of processed bamboo. Also ecological effect of the adhesive - if polymer based adhesives are being used.
