edit: I think you edited your posting so that mine doesn't make as much sense, but whatever. is it really hard to believe? I think a lot of the preachings in a lot of religious institutions are quite weak, as in: just do as I say because God says so. Also: Ingroup vs. outgroup. As long as you are nice to the ingroup, everything goes. Granted, there is one story (as told by the preacher in church) that still sits with me nowadays about the woman who shared her only loaf of bread and by doing that was a better person than all the rich people who shared more but had not really anything to lose by it. Still words to live by.
