Paris overtakes London to become Europe’s biggest stock market
- cl0ckt0wer 4y agoIt's going to take a few years but the UK is on the express lane to 3rd world status.
- MisterSandman 4y agoPeople say third world without really knowing what it means.
- oblio 4y agoNobody cares about non aligned countries, let it go, it's just pedantry.
- ben_w 4y agoI was sufficiently opposed to Brexit to move because of it, but even so I'd be surprised if it takes the UK less than decades to even revert to mean GDP/capita — and even then I still expect its economy to continue growing, just slower than most others.
- JoeAltmaier 4y agoI suspected this is about currency exchange rates, and along about the third paragraph I saw it.
- rhaway84773 4y agoThis isn’t just about currency rates though. The gap used to be $1.5Tn in 2016. The sizes of the 2 exchanges are about $2.8Tn each right now. The gap between London and Paris used to basically be about 50% of what the market cap for exchanges in either city is today.
- Imnimo 4y agoSince the advent of stock exchanges, is this the first time London has not been the largest in Europe?
- m_mueller 4y agoIt started in Amsterdam in the early 17th century by Dutch East India company, so no.
- shagmin 4y agoRelated, in 2021 Amsterdam surpassed London in terms of volume of trade on stock exchanges.
- yrgulation 4y agoThe UK is in deep, deep, trouble. Economically, socially and politically.
