This reads like her being a narcissist and having "main character symptom", which I assume most people who think they are above the law have to some degree unless it's passional crimes.
Why they think this is a good defense, that is the interesting part.
- Apocryphon 4y agoIt also sounds very on-brand for Holmes, and perhaps speaks to how much control she’s exercising over her own defense team if they’re operating in her style.
- jjtheblunt 4y agoCould they be just so sick of her petulant entitled craziness?
- killingtime74 4y agoSorry I'm not defending Holmes but your attorneys literally have to follow your instructions or quit that is their job. Also if you quit you cannot say why. Trust me they know it's a bad idea. They see worse things everyday
- anotherman554 4y agoIf you look at the American Bar Association model rules they say "a lawyer shall abide by a client's decisions concerning the objectives of representation and, as required by Rule 1.4, shall consult with the client as to the means by which they are to be pursued. " This means there are situations where the attorney does not have to follow the client's instructions. The client determines the objectives and how to plead, but this doesn't mean the attorney is obligated to listen to the client's order about everything.
- killingtime74 4y agoYes that is looking at one rule in isolation. I am a lawyer and in ethics classes they expand on many rules and many situations in detail. Some other conflicting interests include duties to the court and legal professional privilege. Example client can tell you to do something that is against the interests of the administration of justice. when they insist you have to resign.
