The earth seems to be doing fine with 7 billions, I bet 17 billions would be fine .. of course with many weird ways of doing things. If it's a market who dares to short .. the numbers within 200 years?
- leroman 4y agoThe dog meme with the fire around saying “everything is fine”, is really needed here.
- Existenceblinks 4y agoIt's painful but it keeps going. At some point it will reach the bottom and go up .. probably a new high?
- Existenceblinks 4y agoTo the one who downvoted me, you are very silly. Please showing your argument.
- dutchCourage 4y agoI don't have the ability to downvote, but you're making a bold claim with no arguments yourself. It's strangely worded as well. I'd assume this is why you're getting downvoted. Calling people silly because you're getting downvoted is against the rules and will result in more downvotes.
- Existenceblinks 4y agoThank you. I didn't know there's such rule. I thought facebook is the only one that has this kind of "community standards". I never got downvote from reddit/youtube or social platform generally.
- throwawaylinux 4y agoApart from mass extinctions, habitat destruction and alteration, spiraling environmental chemical accumulation, and depletion of economical reserves of many minerals and petrochemicals, and greenhouse gas pollution? It's still pretty much a ball of stuff in space that orbits the sun though so I guess it's doing fine if you look at it that way.
- dotancohen 4y ago> Apart from mass extinctions, habitat destruction and alteration, spiraling environmental chemical accumulation, and depletion of economical reserves of many minerals and petrochemicals, and greenhouse gas pollution? And the roads.
- Existenceblinks 4y agoI mean the earth is doing fine but many corners of society look like hell. Poverty sucks.
- throwawaylinux 4y agoAnd I mean a ball of crap in space might be "doing fine", whatever that means, but irreversable resource depletion, pollution, and destruction of non-human life looks like hell.
- vidarh 4y agoWe're at closer to 8 billion not 7, but not likely to grow to more than 10, maybe 11, before peaking and facing actual population drops, given current population projections.
- Existenceblinks 4y agoLike trading graph but longer time frame for sure. It's going to down to test a higher low because going to new high .. no one knows for sure.
- vidarh 4y agoWe don't know for sure, but we have multiple decades of seeing the global fertility rate consistently dropping since it peaked in 1965, so while the error bars in the UN population forecasts are fairly broad, it'd take a staggeringly massive and rapid change to prevent us from seeing global population drops within a century, not least because these things tends to have multi-decade lag. China started trying with the end of the One child policy in 2016, with a fertility rate then of 1.68. They've just managed to nudge it up to about 1.7, but with the total birth rate per 1,000 people still dropping, prompting them to now to not only allowing three children, but providing "supportive measures" to try to nudge it higher[1] In other words, changing this trajectory is not quick or easy, and so it's likely the projections will hold reasonably well.
