They can dress it up all they like but designing a social site to be 'antiviral' and have 'friction' means it's literally not fit for purpose.
Creating a site that has friction, is ultimately trying to solve people problems with technology and doing it badly. The old adage of everything looks like a nail when all you have is a hammer.
Mastodon is needed, and I'm not knocking it, but the approach is fundamentally broken.
When you use a social site the experience should be so polished and seamless, that you forget the technology is even there and you're just communicating directly with people.
We should be long past the time of trying to fight our tools to get the experience we want.
