Sam Bankman-Fried’s implosion took down Democrats’ second-biggest donor
- tomohawk 4y agoWill the Democrats give back the donations that came from the ill gotten gains? EDIT I'm going to guess "make excuses and keep the money" is going to be the way forward, based on the downvotes. It's sad that on HN you can no longer ask a question to see what points of view people might have, but instead just get a bunch of downvotes based on "I don't like the point of view".
- throwoutway 4y agoThis is what I was thinking. Now these politicians are tied to a corrupt/fraudulent billionaire. Would you want your name attached to Madoff?
- themihai 4y agoI don't think that makes any sense if the money was spent.
- JumpCrisscross 4y ago> Would you want your name attached to Madoff? Nobody is naming a wing after the guy. It’s money legally spent. (Unless it was paid to SBF after FTX was insolvent.) In any case, gamblers haven’t historically been a sympathised-for victim.
- yieldcrv 4y agodepends on the genealogy of that specific money if that specific money wasn't embezzled then nah
- defterGoose 4y agoIt's clear you're working with some funny money when you have to ask whether it's fungible or not...
- yieldcrv 4y agoa standard that applies to all major banks equally
- mint2 4y agoSounds like most the money went to pacs, which are independent of the candidates, so not sure how that would even work. Give back money that they didn’t get?
- l3uwin 4y agoMaybe support campaign finance laws instead of new spins on the southern strategy then
- midislack 4y ago
- zen21 4y agoIs there a link to evidence of this?
- midislack 4y agoOh yeah, for sure. Check Kim Dotcom's Twitter.
- zen21 4y agoSo no.
- wellthatsawrap1 4y agoWell let's certainly not investigate money flowing to one of the most corrupt countries in Europe through one of the biggest ponzi schemes we've had in years and just write it off as another conspiracy theory.
- dntrkv 4y agoBurden of proof is on the person making the claim. Someone’s Twitter account is not proof.
- jrmg 4y agoSeems to be based on this? https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2022/03/14/ukraine-partners-with-ftx-everstake-to-launch-new-crypto-donation-website/ https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2022/03/14/ukraine-partners-... TL/DR you could donate crypto to Ukraine via FTX. It was supposedly converted to regular currency and sent to the Ukrainian national bank.

- samstave 4y agoThe democrats should be required to be fined and return to users for all those fraudulent stolen dollars ...
- samstave 4y agoApparently you guys dont believe in the money laundering, and know about the connections between all these people. Sometimes I am disgusted with how uninformed people are on certain subjects... I mean - this is fraud all the way to the DNC...
- manofmanysmiles 4y agoWhat connections between what people? What is the evidence of the connections? Can you provide some links?

- lern_too_spel 4y agoNow tell me how Bolsonaro, who gave the 2019 keynote at Davos, fits into the conspiracy.
- samstave 4y agoDid bolsonaro launder money from the US >> Ukraine billions to >> ftx to >> DNC/GOP/pelosi/biden/whomever Remember the trips that congress members took to Ukrain after giving money to Ukraine? Yeah - that was to ensure the laundering could happen and they were there to ensure their cut would com back. There are articles already about ukrainian VIPS who have been buying luxury shit... Pelosi is the most corrupt politician there is. McConnell is next. If you disagree with me, then prove it with facts not downvotes... I follow these corrupt politicians closely - so GFSY with knee-jerk-uninformed responses and dont ask me for a master class in 30 years of my following all these POS daily. EDIT: You asked about DAVOS... Apparently you know nothing about DAVOS. Thats basically like CES Las Vegas for the elite corrupt...
- tomjakubowski 4y agoFTX's co-CEOs together donated tens of millions of dollars to both GOP and Democratic candidates in the midterms. Not exactly a partisan issue. https://cointelegraph.com/news/sbf-has-been-a-significant-donor-in-us-midterm-elections/amp https://cointelegraph.com/news/sbf-has-been-a-significant-do...

- wellthatsawrap1 4y ago92% went to democrats and SBF was planning to spend 1B to install who his handlers wanted as President. So no, it is a very partisan issue.
- tomjakubowski 4y agoTry reading the very next sentence in the article. > FTX co-CEO Salame favors the red side of the political divide, donating $23.6 million to Republican campaigns for the current cycle.
