CommunityRule is a governance toolkit for great communities
- codetrotter 4y agoWish they would include some examples of specific communities using this, to highlight that it actually works in practise.
- csande17 4y agoThe system seems so flexible that it could be used to describe literally any organization, from a Twitter mob to the Coca-Cola board of directors.
- ispo 4y agoThat makes it beautiful! Seems like the perfect ground to study the voter model on it.
- ntnsndr 4y agoWe don't have this in the app, but the booklet that is featured on the website has some short case studies for each template.
- codetrotter 4y agoThank you
- civilized 4y agoThe Templates section provides a bit of information about specific governance structures, but what are the little boxes below each one that say stuff like Values and Membership, and sometimes they're nested?
- ropeladder 4y agoThis is very interesting! For some reason the name and crown logo rub me a bit the wrong way, but I love the way they dissect and categorize different models. Edit: just to add some substance to my comment, I think more awareness of governance models and how power is allocated in the various domains of our lives is an absolutely critical piece of moving toward a more just, fulfilling, and less authoritarian world.

- ntnsndr 4y agoOriginal developer here. What a nice to surprise to see this on HN! AMA if it is useful.
- csande17 4y agoNot sure how helpful it'll be at this stage, but I had a couple pieces of feedback: - I really love all the historical examples in the booklet. It's great to see a project like this learning from past (which often doesn't happen in the cryptocurrency side of the "experiments in governance" space). - The current UI makes it a bit too easy to publish a Rule, I think. There are a lot of "testing" entries in the library. Maybe change the primary button on https://communityrule.info/create/ https://communityrule.info/create/ to Preview, and then only show the publish button on the preview page?
- yawnxyz 4y agoWhich one does HN fall under? And I think more importantly: what does dang and YC do in terms of moderation, enforce/display rules, shadow ban, down vote / unpin, etc. that keeps the rule going? I can imagine people WANTing a certain community rule and saying they're of that kind, but through their actions it's something else.
- s3000 4y agoIn the light of 'Show HN: I built my own PM tool after trying Trello, Asana, ClickUp, etc.' [1], it surprises me how much of the organizational aspects of a community are not covered by a PM tool. Is there a startup opportunity in creating a service or program that extends PM tools to all aspects of community management and interaction?
