Glad I’m not the only one that finds Zsh slow to start
- mikelward 4y agoZshrc is slow if you put slow things in it. In the article, the author was running kubectl in their zshrc. kubectl was slow. This doesn't prove zsh is slow.
- raydiatian 4y agoMy wording is pretty clear, that’s no claim to have proof. My working understanding is that .rc files are common for shell init. If it turns out that .rc files slow down any shell du jour significantly, then TIL, I don’t know much about the inner workings of shells and haven’t had a practical reason to learn. In any case, I’d like to apologize because I clearly offended you somehow, despite being a fellow zsh user and for that I am sorry.
- mkonecny 4y agoYou may as well have said "Im glad im not the only one who noticed Linux/Mac OS is slow" or Intel/AMD is slow or bash/fish/ksh is slow My working understanding is that a program is common to run on these OS'es/hardware/shells :/

- hn92726819 4y agoThe title is misleading as it has nothing tk do with zsh being slow. He basically had a sleep statement in his .zshrc and removed it.
- raydiatian 4y agoWhether or not the title is misleading, my experience is that my zsh loads slowly. You are downvoting me for sharing my genuine real world experience with a program. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings with my real life.
- hn92726819 4y agoMy feelings? Your comment demonstrated a misunderstanding of the article. Also I don't have enough karma to down vote anyone on hackernews. If your zsh is slow to start, I suggest commenting your entire zshrc and then binary searching it to see what's slow (uncomment the top half only, then bottom half, then the top half of the slow half).
