> How viable is the "watch this clown show!" strategy for driving engagement with Twitter
I'm wondering this myself, My gut would say it's an expensive proposition and people don't want to pay for a clown show, but I do in a weird way think the dismissal of advertisers is part of the strategy. I think Elon is drawing a line in the sand and saying, here's the vision, if you can't handle a little chaos, we don't want you, as customers or advertisers, and banking on the fact that people want a social network that is less restrictive.
I mean, maybe it's true and if he just pushes this vision long enough he can reshape our idea of what a public square should be. There was probably a time when "brand safety" meant anything that's not christian.
- quantified 4y agoHey, Elon's Fun House may not be the same as a public square, but if everyone you care about is there then the masses will be happy.

- quantified 4y agoI think I know what you mean but the general public emphatically hasn't cared about open source. They'd rather be surveilled hard.
- papito 4y agoReshape... Like, we all suddenly want to go to a bar and socialize, where everyone is shouting at each other and throwing chairs? What people fundamentally want in a civilized discourse has not changed for thousands of years. Elon will reshape nothing, except for his bank account.
