I read an article (or watched an interview) a few years ago, where they were saying that because cancer is unique to the individual, to truly cure cancer you would have to target each cancer individually. Hence CRISPR. But they also warned that this kind of control could also be used to target individuals or groups of individuals. The example they gave of what could theoretically be possible was 'making women of a certain racial group hyper sensitive to sunlight'. Was this hyperbole? I can't find any references to it today.
