The 'luxury belief' here is that one's opponents all hold their views for reasons that they are either not aware of, or are deceptive about. I was in Seattle for CHOP -- the "defund the police" crowd was literally a bunch of really hecking poor young people, pushed to the limit by the pandemic and the politics of the day. That the Right immediately rewrites historical events *that it did not attend* as forms of luxury consumption is because that's the only way they can see the world.
