I would do the opposite. They should do what they did in Japan and remove artificially curated trending topics. Let users decide again. Increase API usage for tools that leverage Twitter. It will benefit the platform if others build upon it. Let users without account read tweets too. Perhaps separate business and private accounts and add filters. Usually professional and private user accounts do not mix too well. I wouldn't want to follow my employer on Twitter.
